Book Character Parade

The book character parade was so much fun! Here are a few pictures of our class waiting for the parade to start. We had some great costumes this year! We also had fun "mummifying" each other after the parade during our mummy race game. Thanks to all the parents who helped us with our morning activities!

States of Matter... ROOT BEER FLOATS!

It's not every day we get to EAT our science experiments! For the past few weeks our class has been learning about the three states of matter: SOLIDS, LIQUIDS, and GASES. On Monday we were able to do a tasty experiment where we could watch all three in action! First, we got a cup of root beer and observed it's properties (brown, dark). Then we decided which states of matter the root beer(LIQUID) and ice cream (SOLID) were. After that we predicted what would happen if we put ice cream into their root beer. Many of us came up with some great predictions. Then we put some ice cream into the root beer and saw what happened! The root beer started to fizz and created gas bubbles. This was a fun way to wrap up our unit on matter. Below are some pictures of some students observing the root beer floats and recording their data.

Literacy Week

Last week was Literacy Week at Waterleaf! Throughout the week, we had Mystery Readers come in and surprise us with their favorite book. We were all so surprised when each guest walked in, including..... Mrs. MacDonald and her daughter, Emma! Here are a few pictures below of the Mystery Readers reading to our class.

Mrs. MacDonald surprised us and read Where's My Mummy?

Chinese New Year Celebration

Our class had a blast celebrating "Chinese New Year" after learning all about Ancient Chinese Civilization! As a celebration of our learning, everyone wore RED to symbolize good luck. We made dragon puppets and red lanterns, and then watched footage from a Chinese New Year celebration in San Francisco. We also used chopsticks to eat sticky rice. Aaron's family donated some Chinese candies for us to try. At the end of the day, students received lucky red envelopes with "money," a tradition for Chinese children every year. Below are some pictures from our fun morning!
