States of Matter... ROOT BEER FLOATS!

It's not every day we get to EAT our science experiments! For the past few weeks our class has been learning about the three states of matter: SOLIDS, LIQUIDS, and GASES. On Monday we were able to do a tasty experiment where we could watch all three in action! First, we got a cup of root beer and observed it's properties (brown, dark). Then we decided which states of matter the root beer(LIQUID) and ice cream (SOLID) were. After that we predicted what would happen if we put ice cream into their root beer. Many of us came up with some great predictions. Then we put some ice cream into the root beer and saw what happened! The root beer started to fizz and created gas bubbles. This was a fun way to wrap up our unit on matter. Below are some pictures of some students observing the root beer floats and recording their data.
